New Visa scheme implemented in UAE

During the course of 2018, the Cabinet, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, approved a several number of visa facilitations including resident visas, tourists visas, families and overstayers in order to accommodate the needs of diverse society.

The new legislative package includes a review of the current residency system which allows a two-year extension of the residency period for the dependents of their parents after having completed university studies. Visit visa holders can apply for a 30-day extension for two times without having to leave the country for a fee of AED 600 only for every 30 days. The extension of the transit visa entails a fee of AED 50 for up to 96 hours or free of charge for the first 48 hours in the country. The introduction of a Job Seeker’s Visa, on the other hand, is 6 months for visitors who overstayed wishing to work in the United Arab Emirates. Furthermore, with the aim to give women the opportunity to adjust to their social and economic status after the loss of the head of the family, widows, divorced women and their children, have been granted a visa extension of one year. In the past, women and their children had to leave the country after a divorce or death of their husband. Therefore, a system that could help meet the needs of women placed in difficult situations needed to be established.
